Creative Director
Lashbrook Marketing & Public Relations is looking for a Creative Director to join our team of fun, hard working professionals.
If you have exceptional design and typographical skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage a project from conception to completion with strong leadership, we want you to join us.

Required skills:
Formal training in graphic and web design;
Minimum 5-7 years experience, ideally within an agency environment;

Lashbrook Wins Virtuoso ‘Best of the Best’ Award Two Years in a Row
Lashbrook Marketing & Public Relations (Lashbrook) is celebrating eight Virtuoso Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), including a ‘Best of the Best’ award in the Communication Creative (graphic design) division. The awards recognize Lashbrook’s excellent work in graphic design, media relations, brand communications and economic, social and environmental development. Lashbrook has won a ‘Best of the Best’ award for two years in a row.
Lashbrook had the highest score among 57 entries in the Communication Creative division, winning the Best of the Best Award for ‘Recycling Moments,’ a public awareness campaign being rolled out across 20 municipalities across Ontario.
“The Best of the Best award is a significant award for our team,” says Laurie Lashbrook, President of Lashbrook Marketing & Public Relations. “We are thrilled to be recognized for this important, environmental project.”
Lashbrook took home seven other Virtuoso awards for its strategic and creative work, including: media relations (CitiPlaza), brand communications (Children’s Aid Society), economic, social and environmental development (Vanier Children’s Services), outdoor (Vanier Children’s Services), and graphic design of promotional materials (Continuous Improvement Fund, Vanier Children’s Services and Community Living Ontario).

Lashbrook Gives Venture London a Boost
We love marketing. And we are passionate about helping grow the London economy. When we were asked by Venture London – London’s version of the popular television show Dragon’s Den – to volunteer our skills in branding, media relations and marketing to help advertise the Initiative and provide business-acceleration prizes to its winners, we didn’t hesitate to say yes!
We created and re-developed the Venture London brand, produced eye-catching ads, banners and e-cards and utilized our media contacts to get local media coverage of this great competition.

MS Bike Tour 09
You know, the human body is capable of many things.
And this weekend definitely proved that.
Racing a total of 150 kms for the MS Bike Tour, I am still amazed that I completed it.
We battled a headwind, downpour, a re-route leaving us without a final rest stop for 21 kms, and traffic along a busy highway into Grand Bend.
There were times I wanted to quit, I laughed, I gritted my teeth …
I really pushed myself those last 21 kms to the finish line on Day 2. When I looked up and saw the highway ahead knowing our final destination was in reach, I got excited.
We took photos, we high fived the MS Ambassador Mike while riding through the finish line and hugged one another. We were greeted with cheers and claps on both days.
I thought of many things along the route:

The youngest rider was 7.
The oldest rider was 81. I saw this man walking up a hill in his Sunday best clothes: a button up Oxford shirt with khaki shorts. At least he was riding in style.
We raised $920,000. We sat and watched a conference where people spoke and how much individuals had raised. One person raised over $31,000. The MS Ambassador spoke and stood out of his wheelchair saying one day he wants to ride along with us. Next year, he’s going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
Will I do this again? Absolutely. I’m hooked. My baby blue Norco got me through a lot these past two days. I owe her a good rest before I take her out again.
Complete insanity. But it was definitely worth it.
Couldn’t have gotten through it without my girl Paula, Eder and of course, Marc who volunteered both days.

Back from Summer Camp
Well I’m back from STT09, back from a week-long yoga Sadhana and rarin’ to dig into this social media thing.
Some learnings to share from the conference:

Close Runner Up - Don Tapscott created a short, special video message to inspire all of us to pursue social media back in our workplaces. Check it out and see how social media is revolutionizing our wired world, transforming it from a content server to a collaborative space.
Personally, I think about web 1.0 as a bulletin board: You go there, read information, maybe take down a number. Web 2.0, on the other hand, is more like a community centre: Sure you can check out the bulletin board, but you’re also going to come back and take a class, have coffee with a friend, and use it as the meeting place for your rally.
How to Start Using It – While we’re using social media for clients like Vanier Children’s Services (check out Bonnie’s Blog), we are starting to leverage social media tools internally too. We recently set up a blog using Yammer to drive creativity and idea generation in-house.
Yammer looks and feels a bit like Facebook but is only open to folks who share your e-mail domain. It allows you to set up groups so you can categorize posts. For us, we’ve set up groups for Idea Factory, Tricks & Tips, Cool Stuff and Just4Fun (Lashbrook party pics etc.). Everything’s keyword-searchable so there’s no more “where did I file that darn e-mail with that really cool idea?” You can also embed links and attach files.
For stuff that’s directly related to projects and/or timely, we’re still using good ol’ e-mail or, gosh, face-to-face communications.
You can also download an app that makes Yammer function like Instant Messenger from an unobtrusive menu at the bottom of your dock (if you’re on a Mac – not sure how this looks in the PC world). You can turn notification e-mails off and check the app when convenient.
So far, Yammer is working as a place to store and share our Lunch & Learn notes which will drive more frequent blog postings. It also takes the pressure off our already overcrowded e-mail inboxes by shuffling the social/cool/not burning stuff to a place we can all dip into when time allows.

Summer Camp 2.0
Remember when you were a kid looking forward to summer camp? Canoeing, hiking, songs around the fire, sneaking out of your tent at night with your friends, getting in heck, and becoming the BEST FRIENDS EVER for two weeks.
Well my summer camp days are long gone but I’m looking forward with the same enthusiasm to Web of Change Social Tech Training 2009.
This 3-day intensive Web 2.0 boot camp describes itself as: “helping you build a rock solid online program. In a quickly evolving environment, where both tools and audience change monthly, there are no pat or permanent answers. But you can continually move towards maximizing your results by coming up with creative new approaches, testing them, learning from the results, and applying those learning’s to the next round of innovation. “
And here I was hoping to get in a bit of shopping, visit a few friends, and check out the Centre for Social Innovation, Mars Centre (luckily, this is where the conference is), and the Design Exchange.
The conference organizers politely informed me that I’d have no time. The agenda is packed, day AND night. We’re going to learn together, eat together, party together. Just like summer camp, minus the getting in heck part.
I’ve wrapped my head around the fact that this isn’t going to be like other conferences or training workshops. I’m thinking this is a good thing.
